Using technology and digital tools to support data handling in primary STEM subjects NC003 / A22
Summary
Handling data is an area which spans several subjects at primary. This course introduces digital tools for data collection and handling and considers how they develop children’s learning in science and maths and digital skills.
This course will enable teachers to support pupils in developing practical expertise to use devices to collect and log data from a variety of sources. It will explore different ways of organising and representing data using digital tools. You will learn about the micro: bit a small micro-computer, which can be used to record data such as light, temperature and sound to support learning in science, maths, and computing. You will also learn how to use the device as a datalogger and how to view the stored data and use data handling software to represent it in tables, charts and graphs.
This course will have lots of hands-on experience of learning about micro: bits and how to use them in your classroom to log data during a range of investigations. As well as these practical aspects, the course will look at how to develop skills and approaches and will explore projects where children learn and apply digital skills to maximise opportunities for learning about data in a primary classroom.
