Teaching primary science outdoors NY009 / A22
Summary
Outdoor learning is brilliant! Not only do pupils enjoy learning outdoors, research shows that taking lessons outside is more effective in terms of engagement, retention and attainment and even helps to improve attendance. The benefits are not just limited to pupils, teachers also experience new curriculum connections, increased morale and enthusiasm for teaching along with reduced discipline and classroom management problems. Learning outdoors is definitely a win, win!
On this two-day immersive CPD experience, you will have the opportunity to explore and take part in a wide range of primary science activities outdoors. We will cover biology, chemistry and physics outdoors, with curriculum links highlighted throughout. You will take away a wealth of ideas and easily accessible practical activities that you can recreate in your own school’s outdoor space. You will have the opportunity to look at the research underpinning outdoor learning, as well as resources and organisations that are available to support you and your school.
A large proportion of this course will be spent outside. Please prepare for all weather by bringing wellies, full waterproofs, sunglasses and a hat.
